All-Conference Selection for Sue Weber

Plainview, NY (July 27, 2010) – Long Island Rough Riders Defender and Team Captain Sue Weber, has been named to the 2010 W-League All-Conference Team for the Eastern Conference.  Weber was previously named W-League Defender of the Year with the Rough Riders in 2008, as well as being selected to the W-League All Star Team.

“This award is a tremendous honor,” said Rough Riders President Peter Zaratin.  “We are very proud of the season she put together for us.”

Sue Weber made her return to the Rough Riders in 2010 after a standout campaign in 2008.  She led the 2008 squad to the W-League Eastern Conference semi-finals.  After the Rough Riders were ousted from the playoffs, Weber was drafted by the Boston Breakers in the third round (18th overall).

Prior to beginning her professional career, Weber was a member of the U-17 National Team, and a National Pool player from 2000-2003.  During her freshmen year of college at Georgia, she played in every game and was named to the SEC All-Rookie team.  After transferring to Hofstra, Weber became a two-time All-American (2005, 2007).

“Sue has put together an impressive collegiate and professional career at a very young age,” said Rough Riders Women’s Coach Steve Cadet.  “She was a true leader for our squad in 2010, providing us with a strong defensive presence all season.”

The Long Island Rough Riders Women put together a strong run in 2010, but missed the playoffs on the last day of the season.  Weber anchored the Rough Riders defense, leading the team in minutes played for the second time in her career (1080), while playing in every game (12).  She scored two goals for the Rough Riders this season as well.  Her first goal included a dramatic game-winner against the New York Magic in stoppage time at the home opener.
