Rough Riders on WPIX 11 Morning Show

Plainview, NY (May 12, 2009) – On Wednesday morning, May 13th, the PIX 11 Morning Show will feature the Long Island Rough Riders during the "Where’s Larry" segment with correspondent Larry Hoff.

Throughout the morning, Hoff will be interacting with members of the Rough Riders girls Under 8 team who will be playing at Giants Stadium prior to this Saturday night’s Red Bull New York game against the Houston Dynamo. The team, coached by Rough Riders Camp Director Bill Hender, will incorporate Hoff into their training session as they prepare for Saturday’s match.

“I think this is a great opportunity to showcase our girls and the Rough Riders organization," said Hender. "Hopefully, Larry will be able to learn a thing or two from the girls without gettin too tired out."

The show will also feature members of the Rough Riders men’s and women’s teams. Both teams kicked off their 2009 seasons this past Saturday at Cy Donnelly Stadium located at St. Anthony’s High School in Huntington. Their next scheduled home doubleheader is this Saturday, May 16th.

Two years ago, as part of their "Kick Off Spring" promotion, Hoff and the PIX Morning Show visited the Rough Riders Training Center located at Mitchel Field in Uniondale to take part in a training session with players from all levels of the Rough Riders organization ranging from youth to senior teams.

The PIX 11 Morning Show broadcasts Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

About the Long Island Rough Riders

The Long Island Rough Riders have been part of the Long Island soccer scene since their inception in 1994. The Rough Riders men and women’s team won their first National Championship in 1995. The Rough Riders men’s team featured former US National Team members Chris Armas, Tony Meola, and MLS star Giovanni Savarese. Since their initial success, the Rough Riders men’s team has gone on to win the United Soccer League (USL) 2nd Division National Championship in 2002 and has sent numerous players to Major League Soccer (MLS).

In 2007 the Rough Riders reacquired a W-League franchise, which was formerly known as the Lady Riders. The Rough Riders women’s team qualified for the Eastern Conference Finals in 2008.

In recent years, the Rough Riders organization has expanded to include the Junior Rough Riders program, featuring elite level players from 8 to 17 years of age.  Junior Rough Riders teams from 13 to 17 years old participate in the Super Y-League (SYL), the youth component of the USL.
