Plainview, NY (June 9, 2009) – The Long Island Rough Riders are pleased to announce the hiring of Ron Alber as the Director of Player Identification for the Rough Riders women’s W-League team. In this capacity, Ron will also assist in the continued development of Junior Rough Riders program.

For over a decade, Ron Alber has been a leader in the training, coaching and development of nationally competitive and recognized teams and players. Ron’s coaching accomplishments are numerous, including winning the 2003 Super Y-League National Championship, multiple state championships, and coaching elite level female soccer players like Boston College women’s soccer and USWNT U-20 World Cup championship team standout player Gina DiMartino, CJ Ludemann of St. John’s University, Kelly Eagan of Villanova, and a roster of many others.

Ron will assist with player development for the Junior Rough Riders program while identifying qualified players for the Rough Riders women’s team. “Ron has already assisted us with player recruitment, including 2008 USL Defender of the Year, Sue Weber,” said Flavio Ferri, General Manager of the Rough Riders.

In addition, “Ron has a wealth of coaching experience and has formed outstanding youth teams and has helped develop countless Long Island players,” said Ferri. As the Director of Player Identification for the Rough Riders, Ron will work closely with the Rough Riders Coaching Director to ensure the continued success of all Junior Rough Riders teams that compete in the Super Y-League.

About the Long Island Rough Riders
The Long Island Rough Riders have been part of the Long Island soccer scene since their inception in 1994. The Rough Riders men and women’s team won their first National Championship in 1995. The Rough Riders men’s team featured former US National Team members Chris Armas, Tony Meola, and MLS star Giovanni Savarese. Since their initial success, the Rough Riders men’s team has gone on to win the United Soccer League (USL) 2nd Division National Championship in 2002 and has sent numerous players to Major League Soccer (MLS).

In 2007 the Rough Riders reacquired a W-League franchise, which was formerly known as the Lady Riders. The Rough Riders women’s team qualified for the Eastern Conference Finals in 2008, which featured 2008 USL Defender of the Year, Eastern All-Conference Team and 2008 All-League Team player Sue Weber who now currently plays for the Boston Breakers in the Women’s Professional Soccer league (WPS).

In recent years, the Rough Riders organization has expanded to include the Junior Rough Riders program, featuring elite level players from 8 to 17 years of age. Junior Rough Riders teams from 13 to 17 years old participate in the Super Y-League (SYL), the youth component of the USL.

About Ron Alber
Supplementing his amateur international playing experience, Ron Alber has achieved national coaching diplomas and licenses with both the NSCAA and USSF. During his coaching years Ron Alber has accumulated an impressive resume for training, coaching and managing elite collegiate and national team players as well as several teams who won State Championships, and other nationally competitive tournament championships. Ron Alber also had the good fortune to coach the Intense Soccer Academy Black girl’s team in the 2003 Super Y-League National Championship, where the team was eventually crowned the SYL National Champions.

Ron Alber has earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra Law School, where he was an award recipient for academic excellence, and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from Hofstra University’s Frank Zarb School of Business. After commencing a law career with a prominent New York City law firm, Ron Alber returned to Long Island where he now serves as the managing partner of the full service law firm of Alber & Loglisci LLP.
