The Rough Riders girls under 10 competed in the Sarah Parvin Memorial 24-Hour Soccerfest benefiting the American Cancer Society over the weekend going undefeated and winning the tournament..
The Sarah Parvin 24 Hour SoccerFest is a 6v6 soccer tournament unique in the fact it involves players from Under-9 up to over 30 years old, and with skill level divisions ranging from beginner/recreational/just for fun, up to “Travel” level.
"It was a great day. The girls played excellent soccer, had a lot of fun, but more important came together to support a great cause," said Girls U10 coach and Rough Riders Director of Coaching John Diffley. "It was a memorial event for Sarah Parvin that raised funds for cancer research. It was huge turnout, very organized and the fields were excellent. It was special to be a part of this event."
To end the summer, the team will be participating in the East End Soccer Tournament in Mastic Beach and the Spirit Classic in Pennsylvania.
Coach John Diffley played on the 1995 National Champion Long Island Rough Riders, is a former United States National Player, professional player in Europe, Major League Soccer, and an accomplished collegiate, professional and youth coach. He currently serves as Chair of the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Soccer National Championship Committee.
