Rough Riders represented in USL's SYL rankings

Tampa, FL (October 23, 2009) - The United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced the Super Y-League (SYL) Club rankings for the 2009 regular season, recognizing the league’s top clubs on a competitive and administrative basis. The Long Island Rough Riders were represented in all three of the USL’s categories.

The USL ranked every SYL club in North America in three categories: Club, Boys, and Girls. The Rough Riders were ranked 14th in overall clubs, 17th in boys, and 21st in girls. Scores will be recalculated after next month’s Super Y-League North American Finals in Tampa, Florida.

The Rough Riders four boys SYL teams combined for a 27-18-15 record with two of them, the Boys Under-13 and Under-14’s qualifying for Nationals. On the girls side, the four teams finished with a 28-14-6 combined record and the Girls Under-15 and Under-16’s qualifying for Nationals as well.

The SYL launched the First and Second 11 Ranking System in 2005 with the top clubs ranked from 1-22 in three categories: overall, boys and girls. The extensive growth of the USL Super-20 League in the past three seasons has led to the inclusion of the Under-20 league in the ranking process. The rankings are based primarily upon the on-field results. Point percentage accounts for 70 percent of the score while minimum standards and operations complete the other 30 percent.
