Boyds, MD (June 11, 2010) – The Rough Riders Women visited the Washington Freedom Futures for a Friday evening match on June 11th. Washington defeated the Women 1-0.
The Rough Riders outplayed the Futures by putting on heavy pressure for the first 30 minutes. Unfortunately for the women, they were unable to take advantage of their scoring opportunities. Washington scored off a cross from forward Omolyn Davis to fellow forward Molly Menchel in the 38th minute. Menchel received the pass and bombed her shot to the back of the net, past diving Rough Riders keeper Brittany Henderson.
In the second half the Rough Riders had many chances in the box, but were unable to capitalize. Forward Brooke DeRosa got behind the defense several times throughout the match opening up scoring opportunities for herself (three shot attempts).
“We played very strong throughout the match today, making this loss extremely tough,” said Rough Riders Head Coach Steve Cadet. “I was impressed with our ability to create chances, but we need to work on finishing these opportunities.”
The Women had several crosses, which they were unable to finish in the second half. They took a total of nine shots on goal, a few of which were bobbled by the Washington Freedom, but eventually recovered for saves. The Rough Riders are now third in their division with nine points, with a record of 3-4-0. Washington leads the pack with a 4-0-1 record.
Come see the Rough Riders Women at their next home match on June 19th. They will face the North Jersey Valkyries at 7:30 PM at Cy Donnelly Stadium in a rematch from their game on June 5th.
