Rough Riders Rout Rangers

Plainview, NY (Tuesday June 29, 2010) – The Long Island Rough Riders Women traveled to Morris Catholic High School on June 26th to face off against the New Jersey Rangers.  In need of a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Women put on a dominant performance.

Led by forward Brooke Derosa, the Rough Riders defeated the Rangers with ease, 6-1.  DeRosa supplied the firepower with two assists and two goals for the Women.

“Brooke has been a strong offensive force for us this entire season,” said Rough Riders Coach Steve Cadet.  “She has been a leader on our team and is aiding the younger players in improving their games.”

The Rough Riders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a goal in the 6th minute by defender Sade Ayinde (assist by Derosa).  The Women scored six unanswered goals before the Rangers got on the board in the 87th minute, with a goal by Katie Ryan (assist by Janine Rotsides).

Along with Derosa’s dominant performance, the Rough Riders also received an impressive showing from Amanda Ferranti, who scored back-to-back goals (54th minute, 63rd minute).

The defense was also at the top of its game this weekend.  The Rangers weren’t given many opportunities to score, with only four shots on goal.  The Rough Riders applied the pressure for the duration, taking 16 total shots.

This victory puts the Women at 5-4-0, good for third in their division.  The Rangers will visit the Rough Riders in a rematch at Cy Donnelly Stadium on July 10th at 5:00 PM
