Plainview, NY (August 4, 2010) – Rough Riders Women’s Player Sue Weber is piling up awards for her stellar play in the W-League this past season.
On Monday July 26th, Weber was selected to the All-Conference Team for the Eastern Conference. On Tuesday July 27th, she was selected to the W-League All-League Team. Finally, on Wednesday July 28th, she was nominated for W-League Defender of the Year.
Weber was previously named W-League Defender of the Year in 2008 as a member of the Rough Riders. At the W-League Championship banquet on Friday July 30th, Sue Weber was named Defender of the Year, for the second time in her career.
“Sue continues to impress the organization with her hard work and dedication,” said Rough Riders President Peter Zaratin. “She was the backbone of our defense this past season, and a role model for our younger players.”
Weber led the Rough Riders in 2010 in minutes played (1080) and games played (12), while collecting two goals. Her first goal of the year included a game winner in stoppage time during the Rough Riders Home Opener at Cy Donnelly Stadium. The Rough Riders defeated the New York Magic 3-2 thanks to Weber’s dramatic goal.
Her professional playing history, aside from her time with the Rough Riders includes, the Long Island Fury, Boston Breakers and Philadelphia Freedoms. Sue was a standout in college earning Rookie of the Year Honors at Georgia, and All-American selections at Hofstra (2005, 2007).
